welcome

Located near Thorntree Lodge, approximately 10 km from Livingstone, Zambezi Elephant Trails has established Zambia’s first “Elephant Camp” - offering a once in a lifetime insight into these gentle giants.  Together with this ecologically friendly method of game viewing, a strong emphasis is placed on an Elephant experience rather than just an Elephant ride and guests are encouraged to interact with these majestic and intelligent African mammals.  The training techniques used by Zambezi Elephant Trails are based on the positive reinforcement method as opposed to the controversial “discipline and submission” technique commonly associated with Asian Elephants.

Our six adult African Elephants, Madinda, Bop, Marula, Liwa, Danny, and Mashumbi each offer two guests an unparalleled viewpoint of the mighty Zambezi River and surrounding bush area of Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park. Chavaruka born to Mashumbi in 2004 will carry just one guest. We also have the proud addition of 2 calves, Nandi, born to Liwa and Bop on the 13th April 2007 and Sekuti, a young orphan the herd brought home from the bush at the end of January 2010.  Both calves accompany on the walk with clients, frolicking along with the herd.

Age Restrictions
Minimum age is 10 years; guardians of minors (under 18) will be required to sign an indemnity form on behalf of the minors.  A Guardian must accompany children under the age of 16 throughout the trip.  No child rate.
