WILDLIFE
Common sightings at Kayila Lodge are elephant, buffalo, impala, puku,
bushbuck, kudu, zebra, warthog, baboon, hippo, crocodile and an abundant
species of bird life. Nocturnal animals such as hyena, porcupine, civet,
genet, honeybadger and leopard are occasionally seen on night drives.
There are also lion on the estate and wild dog occur further east in the
Lower Zambezi National Park. There have also been occasional sightings
of the Samango Monkey on the estate.
MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM AGE
Minimum Age : 12 years*
*Children under 12 years old are accepted on request and on condition
that parents are made fully aware that the lodge does have wild animals
roaming around the grounds at various times of the day and night, and
that they will be required to sign an Indemnity Form for each child.
Parents should also be requested to ensure that their children behave
appropriately as there will be other paying guests.
FACILITIES
- A central dining area on higher ground affords magnificent views of the
river and the escarpment.
- A Baobab tree with a toilet and hand basin.

ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE FROM KAYILA LODGE
There
are a multitude of activities to choose from when staying at Kayila
including bush walks with an armed Professional Guide, hikes to the
nearby escarpment with visits to its natural pools and waterfalls, game
viewing by boat or simply relaxing in the beautiful gardens of the
lodge.
Kayila is also able to offer its guests walking trails and safaris
with experienced, knowledgeable guides within the Chiawa Game Management
Area.

The fishing on this section of the river is world famous, especially
for the fighting Tigerfish. Our expert guides offer both traditional
spinning as well as increasingly popular fly fishing excursions.
ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
Self-Drive Clients– Clients self-driving from Lusaka, should be at Gwabi Lodge
(Kafue) at 12h00. From here clients are transported to Kayila Lodge by
motor boat (approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes). Boat transfers are not
included in rates and are to be paid at time of booking.

Road Transfer Times*:
Lusaka – Zambezi Valley (130km. approx 1 hr 45 min)
Livingstone – Zambezi Valley (496km. approx 6 hr 45 min)
*The above road transfers would require an additional
speedboat transfer to get clients to the lodge from
Chirundu/Gwabi/Breezers. The cost is calculated per speedboat and will
be charged to the client at the time of booking
Air Charters – (ex. Lusaka/Mfuwe/Livingstone) – The most efficient and
enjoyable access is to charter into Kayila Airstrip. The strip is
situated +/-1 kilometre east of the lodge. A charter service can be
arranged and clients wishing to charter in from or out to Lusaka, Mfuwe
or Livingstone can do so on request. The charter will fly into Kayila
airstrip. Prices on application.

CLIENT REQUIREMENTS
- If travelling from Zambia, both Zambian and Zimbabwean customs
and immigration formalities must be cleared.

- Zambian visa for clients entering via Livingstone
airport.
- Return air tickets or vehicle registration particulars – if
required.
- Advise Safari Par Excellence of any dietary requirements or
medical conditions.
VISA REQUIREMENTS

advise all clients check with their local embassy/consulate prior to
travel as they will be able to advise the most up to date and accurate
information regarding visas. Safari Par Excellence accepts no
responsibility for visa fees.
INSURANCE
All clients are covered by Medical Air Rescue Service (MARS)
through Safari Par Excellence; however this only covers them for
emergency evacuation in life threatening situations. It does not
cover their hospitalisation and medication. As such travel and medical
insurance is compulsory for all clients. Please ensure clients have
arranged this insurance in their own country prior to leaving so as to
cover unexpected medical expenses and loss / theft of personal effects.
Please ensure clients bring the details of their insurance policy with
them. Safari Par Excellence will not be able to cover clients should
they not have the insurance.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
- Malaria prophylactics, insect repellent and sun block
- Personal toiletries and medical requirements
- Binoculars, camera, video and film/digital memory cards
- Torch / flashlight
- Fishing rods and tackle
- Warm clothing during cool months
- Walking shoes (comfortable, not new)
- Khaki / green clothing for walking and game drives
- Swimming costume
- Broad rimmed hat
We advise all clients to consult their local physician for the latest
health requirements regarding Zambia and the Lower Zambezi Valley prior to their
departure from their home country.
WHEN TO VISIT
Kayila Lodge is closed during part of the rainy season due to the
inaccessibility of the roads and for general lodge maintenance (15 Jan – 15
March annually).
PLEASE NOTE: Clients must be made aware that
during the rainy season from December through June, speedboat charters
from Chirundu will need to be used to access the lodge. The cost is
calculated per speedboat and will be charged to the client at the time
the booking is made.
