African Safaris on the Zambezi

If you're looking for a safari in Botswana, Zambia, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya or further afield into Madagascar, Gabon or Uganda then go to our main safari site to get in touch with one of our safari specialists...

The upper and lower Zambezi include a variety of habitats in well managed private reserves, Game Management Areas and National Parks.  A well developed safari infrastructure in the region enables simple access and a number of different types of safari to experience our scenic wilderness areas, the healthy populations of big and small game and incredible birdlife.

  • If you've never been on safari before then we recommend that you take a look at this "Safari Primer" for a quick overview of Africa's main safari destinations, seasons, different types of African safaris, some ideas on costs and prices plus a simple guide to planning your travels.
  • Canoe safaris: amongst the most popular safari pursuits in southern Africa, they range from one day trails in Victoria Falls to full blown expeditions on the lower Zambezi River.  The latter trips are widely regarded as the one "must-do" safari in southern Africa as a whole!
  • Walking safaris: accompanied by a Professional Guide, this is probably the best way to get "up real close" in the African bush.  These traditional safaris usually make use of a fixed base camp from which to explore.
  • Birding and specialist safaris: are ideal if you're in pursuit of particular bird or game species or want to explore specific cultural, geological, archaeological or other specialized aspects of the more remote areas.
  • Fishing safaris: anglers tend to be pretty single-minded in their pursuit - preferring not to mix with others and generally best left to their own devices.  With 75 species in the Zambezi and a few well selected private spots, consider the SafPar options on both the upper and lower stretches of the Zambezi River.
  • Cultural tours: the local populations in the region have a long and colorful history with a culture steeped in tribal tradition.  The best opportunities for meeting and interacting with villagers is in Livingstone.
  • Combination safaris: In additional to our "standalone" safari options both in Victoria Falls and on the lower Zambezi we offer a selection of easily arranged and cost effective combinations.

Safaris in Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana

Southern Africa contains a number of environments that are rich in wildlife, are relatively remote and offer additional safari opportunities.  All are relatively easy to access from the primary hubs in Victoria Falls and the lower Zambezi..

  • Zambia is a relatively undeveloped country with 3 main safari destinations; the Zambezi, Kafue National Park and the Luangwa valley.  The country has a sophisticated safari infrastructure and is regarded as the home of the modern day walking safari.
  • Zimbabwe is one of Africa's finest safari destinations and is renowned for the quality of its Professional Guides.  The main safari spots are Hwange, Matusadona and Mana Pools.
  • Botswana is arguably southern Africa's most popular safari destination and is home to some of Africa's most well known safari camps and reserves including Chobe, the Okavango Delta, Moremi and the Kalahari.
